Photography Over the Years

1.  Thomas Eakins (1800's)
"History of a Jump" 1884
1910
Thomas Eakins was not only a photographer but also a painter. I noticed he did a lot of sports photography such as the top photo and that he also really like to photography people naked. I feel like at his time he was probably a very out there kind of photographer and really pushed the limits of his time.
2. Helmar Lerski (1900-1950)
From the series "Jewish Soldiers" 1942

I was interested in Helmar Lerski's work because I noticed that he really likes to take photos of peoples faces and tries to capture their natural and genuine expressions in the photography. No one in his photos smile and all of the photos seem really personal which I thought was very interesting.

3. Guy Bourdin (1951-1990)

Guy Bourdin's photos are incredibly quirky and show a unique way of photographing people. While searching his photos, I noticed he has quite an obsession for legs and making them bent in odd ways or having girls pose upside down like in the photo above.
4. Thomas Struth (1991-2000)

"The Richter Family" 2002

"The Consolandi Family Milan" 1996
Thomas Struth liked to take family portraits but the odd thing about them is that the portraits are not your typical family photo. He makes everyone look so emotionless which I think is interesting because
it isn't trying to be a perfect happy family when really you are not.

5. Herb Ritz (1991-2000)

When looking at photos by Herb Ritz's photos I noticted that he really likes to photograph celebrities and people who were famous and greatly remebered. He only liked to publish photos that were black and white which I thought was interesting espically because he was living in a time where color photography was easily available.
